Atatürk'e hakaretten sanık bir köylü hakkında takibat yapılıyordu. Durumu Atatürk'e arz ettiler,
- Mahkemeye veriyoruz, dediler, size küfür etmiş. Atatürk sordu:
- Ben ne yapmışım ona? Evrakı tetkik edenler açıkladılar:
- Gazete kâğıdı ile sardığı sigarayı yakarken kâğıt tutuşmuş ta ondan.
Atatürk'e bunu söyleyen bir milletvekilidir. Atatürk sormuş,
- Siz hiç gazete kâğıdı ile sigara içtiniz mi?
- Hayır...
- Ben Trablus'tayken içmiştim, bilirim. Pek berbat şey. Köylü bana az küfretmiş. Siz bunun için onu mahkemeye vereceğinize, ona insan gibi sigara içmeyi sağlayınız!._____ hoşgörülü yüce gönüllü ATATÜRK'ü özledik
